BIOGRAPHICAL
SKETCH
Mount
Airy Church of God in Christ was founded as a tiny storefront
mission with a congregation of 16 Sunday School children in May
1966.
From this beginning, God has blessed the vision and Mount Airy
Church of God in Christ has grown to a landmark church numbering
more than 3,000 persons, with a uniquely far
reaching ministry. The roster of working auxiliaries and ministries
number more than 80 providing in-house and community
social services.
In addition, Mt. Airy owned and operated Bethesda Manor,
a full service shelter for more than 190 homeless men and ex-offenders,
providing medical treatment, drug rehabilitation, and vocational
training. At present, Mount Airy manages the Stenton Family
Manor, a full service family shelter which houses and
provides counseling and skills training for more than 250 abused
and displaced women and children. Mount Airy has also recently
provided service to more than 500 women on site through the Welfare
to Work program.
In
1998, Bishop Morris and Mount Airy completed
construction and dedicated a 37,000
sq. ft., 3,000 seat sanctuary on a 4.5 acre site, and an adjoining
36,000 sq. ft. educational building which houses executive offices,
chapel, dining areas, assembly halls, and approximately 35 classrooms.
In 1999, The Church of God in Christ honored Bishop Morris for
his service and faithfulness with the high honor of Bishop
of Bermuda. In 2001, God led Bishop Morris to the office
of Bishop of the Koinonia Jurisdiction here in
Pennsylvania.
From its inception, Mount Airy Church of God in Christ under dynamic
leadership of the God-Gifted Pastor, has been called a "Miracle" church. Moving from location to location, outgrowing,
moving, building, burning mortgage after mortgage in record breaking
time. Bishop Morris has expanded and rem, odeled site after site
without incurring loans, while at the same time expanding ministries
to include full and part-time staff in excess of 150, and an annual
budget in excess of $5,000,000.00.
Although a much sought after lecturer, teacher, and conference
speaker and teacher, Bishop Morris continues to be a humble prayerful,
and dedicated servant of the people, who is ever seeking ways
to serve God as he serves his people.
Bishop Morris is the compiler and author of numerous
pamphlets, manuals, study guides and seminar packages on Church
Growth, Leadership Training, Discipleship, and Secrets
of Successful Ministry.
A man of numerous energy, who gives himself to his community,
Bishop Morris serves on numerous boards, advisory committees,
civic organizations, and councils.
Bishop Morris and his wife, Winfred W. Morris,
herself a nationally known speaker, lecturer, and seminar leader
in her own right, are the parents of four children: Tanya (Bardliving),
Carla (Greene), Ernest Jr., and Jennifer. They are the proud grandparents
of four.
