BIOGRAPHICAL
SKETCH
Pastor Dr.
J. Louis Felton, Servant Leader was appointed as Pastor of Mount
Airy Church of God In Christ on
June 27, 2010. His installation
as Pastor occurred on August 1,
2010.
This
dynamic man of God previously served
as Senior Pastor of the House of
Prayer Community Church in Cassopolis,
Michigan from January 1984 –
1991.
While
Pastor he became the Founding YPWW
President and First Chairman of
the United Jurisdictional Auxiliaries
Convention (UJAC) for 3rd Ecclesiastical
Jurisdiction of Southwest Michigan,
‘88-’91 under the Prelate,
Bishop R. L. Jones.
Dr.
Felton then served as Senior Pastor
of the Galilee Church of Kalamazoo,
Michigan from 1991 until accepting
his role as Servant Leader of Mount
Airy Church in 2010.
Celebrating
47 years in the Gospel Ministry,
Dr. Felton has accomplished many
outstanding achievements including:
•
Alumnus of Western Michigan University
– 1985
• Attended McCormick Theological
Seminary; Western Theological Seminary
and Grand Rapids Theological Seminary
Within
the past 17 years, the Lord has
blessed this Pastoral Ministry to
be instrumental, through Jesus Christ,
in:
•
Adding over 2,000 souls to God’s
Kingdom through the Galilee ministry
• Adding a 7:30AM worship
service and continental breakfast
• Adding two new choirs to
the music ministry; released “Live”
cd recording “Praise Hymns”
in spring, 2006
Capital
Improvements and Expansion:
•
Broke ground in April of 2003 and
presently worshipping in the New
Galilee Sanctuary, a near $5 million
dollar project; first mortgage has
been liquidated, and now the planning
for phase II is currently under
development for construction of
a gymnasium, 250 seat chapel and
additional classrooms.
•
The Gospel at Galilee television
broadcast is shown in several cities
throughout Michigan, Indiana and
the Midwest
• Led a pilgrimage to Israel
and Egypt, in conjunction with the
Christian Education Ministry in
March 1994 and November 1997
• Developed an annual Christian
Education Training Institute and
Conference for 15 years
Community
Leadership
•
Leader of the March Against Youth
Violence in October of 1994, which
led to the creation and funding
of the Commission on the Prevention
of Youth Violence
• Member of negotiating team
that met with the administration
of Western Michigan University after
minority student walkout in February
1995
•
Host of the first community police
forum, May 1996
• Co-organizer of the Thousand
Men March, June 8, 1996
• Former 1st Vice-President

• Teacher in the National
Baptist Sunday Church School and
Baptist Training Union Congress,

• Former President of the
Congress of Christian Workers, of
the General Baptist State Convention

Initiated the MLK Endowment with
over $25,000 at the Kalamazoo Community
Foundation
• Developed the African American
Health Initiative, with an annual
budget of over $125,000
• Received $180,000 in grants
for the ERACCE program, (Eradicating
Racism and Claiming and Celebrating
Equality) from ELCA
• Received the Compassion
Capital Fund grant for $3.5 million
for the Northside Ministerial Alliance,
from 2003-2006
• Increased attendance at
the annual MLK celebration from
400 people to over 2,000 at WMU
Miller auditorium
• Founder of the Third Millennium
Ministry
• Recipient of the Star Award
for Community Leadership, 1999
• Member of the Community
Block Grant Disbursement Committee
• Chaplain of the Kalamazoo
department of Public Safety; Host
