SKETCH
Mrs.
Winifred W. Morris is the wife
of Bishop Ernest C. Morris, Sr. and
the Church Mother of the dynamic landmark
Mount Airy Church of God in Christ in
Philadelphia. Mrs. Morris is an integral
part of this ministry serving a growing
congregation in excess of 3,000 active
members. She serves as Church
Mother of the congregation
which specializes in ministry to families
and embraces more than 1300 young people.
More importantly, however, she is the President of the Missionary
Department, Women's Fellowship, and
the Department of Women's Ministries. In this capacity she spearheads the
annual Women's Vision to Victory
Conference whose scope has
broadened from the local and state levels
to the national, attracting speakers
and facilitators of national renown.
Mrs.
Morris, having completed bachelors, masters and doctoral studies
programs at the University of Pennsylvania; language training
at the University of Laval in Quebec Canada; extensive travel
in the U.S., Europe, and Mexico; was a foreign language teacher
with the Philadelphia Public Schools for many years. In 1980,
she, along with her husband, brought her years of training and
teaching experience to the private arena, establishing the Mount
Airy Christian Day School (MACDS), a preschool through grade
6, where she served as administrator for more than 20 years.
Mrs.
Morris is multitalented. Her scope of activities includes
numerous educational, cultural and civic pursuits. Throughout
her educational career, she was the recipient of numerous academic
awards, recognition and fellowships. In addition, she had been
cited for outstanding service to her community and the city at
large by the City Council of Philadelphia. The Pennsylvania House
of Representatives, and The Ogontz Area Revitalization Project,
a local community redevelopment corporation among others. She
has been the principal fundraiser and development coordinator
of the church's Community Redevelopment Corporation, securing
grants and funding in the millions of dollars for the numerous
outreach ministries including a 250 person family shelter operated
by the church, a Welfare to Work program for more than 270 women,
extensive after school and summer programs, and youth sports programs.
Mrs.
Morris is a noted keynote and motivational
speaker, sought after across the country by religious,
civic and educational groups. She has written numerous study guides,
inspirational children's literature, produced tapes and videos,
and is in the process, by popular demand, of making these available
through her newly established ministry, "Abounding Life Ministries."
her book on the mission and ministry of the black minister's wife
is soon to be published.
Mother
Morris, an Evangelist in the Church of God in Christ, works with
the Fine Arts and Scholarship Committees of the
National Church. She also ably performs those duties that fall
to her capable hands with the Koinonia Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania,
a consortium of 42 churches under her husband's leadership.
Even
with her busy schedule and the awesome demands on her life because
of the ministry, Mrs. Morris would have you know that she is devoted
to her principal calling as the wife of Bishop Ernest Morris,
the mother of four beautiful children, Tanya (Mrs. Clifford
Bardliving), Carla (Mrs. Samuel L. Greene), Ernest Jr. and Jennifer (Mrs. Wayne Brockington).
They are the proud grandparents of four: Cameron, Amber, Christopher
and Stephanie.
